Can you Stop or Stand in a No Parking.?

Hi,I did the following:

Can you Stop or Stand in a No Parking.?So I'm on my way home from the pediatrician. My daughter is very sick "asthma" and runny nose and all. We(pregnant wife) just ran out of tissue. So I decide to stop by a Burger King to get some tissue and some water for my child. I pull over stop/stand in a no parking zone, yellow lines but no where near the curb. Leaving my wife and child in vehicle ready to jump in the driver seat. No longer then 5 min I return to my vehicle to see my wife tearing. I ask whats wrong. He gave me a ticket. I said who? The parking guy. I ask her how? We are not parked, our hazards on and engine running and I haven't even left for 4 minutes. She tell me he wrote the ticket from a block away then put it on without even telling me what was wrong. Not to mention he got even more disrespectful once she asked and told him she was pregnant. Now that got me a little hot. How fast do you think a pregnant women move? So I look for the guy find him and ask why did you give her a ticket if she was standing. Don't you see the difference in parking sings?
I'm NOT in a no stopping or no standing zone. Which wasn't even my main question. I asked why did you get smart with my wife she is pregnant no need to act like that way. You could of explained it to her instead of acting smart with her because she isn't as car savvy as me. He only laughs in my face. I tell him I wasn't in a meter parking and yet you left 3 vehicles over there that were. To come to my wife and rattle her nerves. Let me guess my ticket will give you more money. I ask about the motor vehicle code we violated so I can look it up. You would figure a parking officer would know this since it has to do with its job. He calls police. Good let them come so they can explain. I love when people act tough with a female. Until someone stand for them then they call the cops. We have a word for those types and its not kitty. They heard me out wrote a report for me since the two police/parking are two different offices. Believe me I will fight this ticket. So this guy tells a double parked car to move like three times. While arguing with the guy then motions to write a ticket. To a car blocking traffic you give chances to but to a pregnant women in the car. Not in the way,yet you don't even ask her once?
If he asked her to move she would have.

When they write tickets while your in the vehicle. Are they supposed to do it in front of you or in your presence?
I know this is a long story but...

Can you Stop or Stand in a No Parking?
Is the main question thank you.
This is in West New York,Nj
@Dan b ..
Thanks for your reply but no it wasn't in a private lot.

Going west on a one way street (side road)

One side of the street had 3 meters.
Then further down the block on you could park without meters.

The side I was standing on said no parking anytime for the same length as the 3 meters.
Then further down the block they were all meters. Until you would hit the next block.

What's even crazier the main street, which goes North & South.
Has the No standing No stopping Sign. And I clearly was not in any of those spots.

So what I must do is take a picture of all the traffic signs and have them explain it to me.

1)NO PARKING
2)NO STOPPING
3)NO STANDING

Any ideas?

I bought some water and asked for napkins.
Why do people always try to leave a slick remark?

Parking means you turn the car off and leave it unattended.

Standing means the car is "parked" but attended by someone who can move it if necessary. Generally, you're allowed to pick up and drop off passengers or cargo, but someone must be behind the wheel.

Stopping means under no circumstances can you stop unless traffic prevents you from continuing.

From your posting, I would fight it. But remember, in civil traffic court, you are guilty until you can prove your innocence. And your word carries no weight.

Was this in a private parking area/lot or on the street right of way? In most jurisdictions, you can get a ticket for parking in a handicapped space regardless if in a private lot, if you are not authorized (plate or mirror placard).

If otherwise in a private lot, the ticket has no weight.

Definitions from the Highway Traffic Act.....
"park" or "parking", when prohibited, means the standing of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except when standing temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading merchandise or passengers;

"stop" or "stopping", when prohibited, means the halting of a vehicle, even momentarily, whether occupied or not, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a police officer or of a traffic control sign or signal; ("arrĂȘt")

No, you can't. If your car is stopped in a no parking zone, you can get a ticket. If the motor is running, and hazards on, and the car full of people, and it isn't moving, you are parked.

Sorry you had to learn this the hard way. I was lucky and only got a warning.

Incidentally, no lame excuse is acceptable, except maybe if your kid was close to death or something like that.

"I was only going to be there for a minute or two" is pretty lame.

I always laugh at the people who think it's OK to park in handicapped, red zones, no stopping ANYTIME, no parking ANYTIME ETC ETC as long as they have the hazard lights flashing. DUMB!

P.S. By the way, if you need supplies, you should go to a drug store and PURCHASE them, rather than taking napkins from Burger King. Those are for customers, not the general public.
