Anyone who is allergic to corn or other foods, please help?

Anyone who is allergic to corn or other foods, please help?I have been having stomach problems and weight loss for the past several months and also other seemingly unrelated problems (rashes, a constant low-grade fever, itching skin with or without rash, "asthma" attacks with no prior history of asthma, fatigue, etc.) I have had a gastroenterologist perform many tests over the months and clear me of pretty much everything. This lead them to believe that I may have food allergies, because of the rashes and other symptoms.

I then saw an allergist who gave me two separate skin tests (scratch and intradermal) for allergies but everything came back negative except a very mild reaction to mold, even though I have been treated for seasonal and cat allergies my whole life. None of the trees, grasses, etc. that I react to seasonally showed up as allergies, and neither did cats.

So these are my questions:

1. Is it possible that my skin test could have been inaccurate and given me false-negatives on the seasonal, cat, and food allergies? Considering that I begin itching all over and sneezing if I as much as touch a cat, I don't see how that could possibly come back negative unless there was some sort of error.

2. Is it true that some food allergies don't show up on skin tests? If so, what kind of tests are performed to better determine whether or not you have food allergies? I have gotten a lot of relief from many of my symptoms by cutting corn and corn products (like high fructose corn syrup) out of my diet, so I think I may be allergic to corn, but it tested as negative on my skin.

I am seeing my allergist as well as my gastroenterologist this week and we are going to go over further testing options, but I just wanted to see what your personal experience with food allergies was and if you can offer any insight as to what they might do next for me. Thanks so much!

maybe your allergic to wheat [gluton] bring it up when you talk to your doctors.

Itchy skin and rashes are signs of food allergies. But unless you are allergic to alot of foods, I couldn't see how all your problems can be a result of food allergies.

I assume you've tried to keep track of what happens when you eat certain foods and stopped eating them.

If you haven't, you need to start! My daughter "googled" food allergies and came up with what category of vegetables she is allergic to...It was from a family of pollens. Celery, carrots, cantaloupe are a few. They get so bad that she gets red and wants to scratch her skin off.

I would try to keep track before going back to the doctor. Take a week of committedly jotting down what foods do what to you, and avoid them...If you still have problems, I would consider you having food allergies in addition to some other problems.

After you do that, you can go back to the internist with some facts and demand some more testing.

Good Luck!
