Are people with "nut" allergies allergic to nutmeg, coconut and/or water chestnuts? What's the difference between "tree nut" allergy, "peanut" allergy and "nut" allergy? Thanks!
-Chrys
water chestnuts are not a nut, they're a root. (thats why they're packed in water...) coconut is not a nut, it's a fruit.
Peanuts are legumes. (same as a bean). Tree nuts grow on trees. (pecans, walnuts, almonds)
You can be allergic to SOME things, because of a certain enzyme in that thing. (sometimes you can eat it cooked, but not raw) it all has to do with peoples bodies and how they react to certain enzymes in food.
