Christians...I'm having struggles with some issues in the Bible about contradictions. Could you please help?Ok...
I've never really been sure how we can tell for sure that the Bible is totally "God inspired". To me, sometimes it seems as if it's a jumble of man made documents mixed in with some "God inspired" material as well (like prophecies). I have some trouble accepting that every single word in the book is "God breathed" as many Christians believe.
1 Corinthians 14:34 for example (I'm not trying to be controversial here)...
"Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says."
But, in other places, Paul taught that we are free from the law. If we are truly free, than the law should not restrict a woman's right to speak in church (where in the law does it say that anyway? The prophetess Anna prophesied in the temple in Luke 2.)
Some people will say that "problem passages" in scripture need to be viewed in historical context, but God doesn't operate according to our cultural norms. He never changes, and His law shouldn't be subject to our own prejudices, etc.
If we disregard verses that don't "sit well with us" on the basis of our comfort with them, then how do we know that the verses that do "sit well with us" are true? If anything is truly God inspired, then it is relevant in any cultural setting. If we disregard something in scripture as irrelevant in today's culture, we are saying that it isn't God inspired--in turn saying that the Bible isn't God inspired. In that case, how can we know that what we believe is true at all?
I have always believed the general message of the Bible (the Gospel), but recently I've been having doubts about the teaching that the Bible is entirely infallible.
Any input you could offer would be great!!! Thank you =)
Also, how much does it really matter if it turns out that all of the Bible is not "God inspired"? Can we still go to heaven? How can somebody who holds this view (not saying I do) tell others about Christianity?
@anon
actually, no i haven't. i have no idea what you're talking about. maybe it's just a coincidence?
@Questions Everything
Good explanation. I still don't know how we know all scripture is "God breathed" or not. Could any future answers try to cover that one? Thanks!
BTW...
I'm a devout Christian. Just having some doubts.
@Anon
That's actually very helpful. Thank you.

you posted the same question the other day.
inspired does not mean LITERAL something can be 100% true in poetry or metaphor or vision or similie
the first part of the bible contains laws ONLY for the Jewish people that is of no concern to any other nation
The JEWISH people that became christians were, through christ, free from the law and no longer under obligation to observe them.
the second part of the bible contains laws that are for christians.
Pauls words are not literal - ie a woman cannot utter a singel word in church (ie she cannot say I'm going to the toilet or say hello to fellow members, that's just silly) only that they should not TEACH or speak up against the male leadership.
No verses in the New Testament should be disregarded but what the writer MEANT should be understood (eg Pauls words) they ALL apply.
you are having doubts because you have no way of accessing reliable bible instruction of quality. You no doubt will soon be an atheist for this reason.

Keep reading. Keep thinking freely. It sounds like you are where I was about 2 years ago when I was a christian.

that verse in corinthians was addressing a church were their women were getting out of hand.. God has order in the church and those women were being out of order so it needed to be adressed.
The book of mormon isn't biblical and if you're having doubts just go to God for clarification. The bible says to submit ourselves to God the devil will flee ( paraphrasing ) and another reason is because there aren't enough men submitted to God and therefore he uses women to preach and teach and God can raise up anyone even a donkey ( in reference to the talking donkey ) to send a message to his people and that woman will not be in sin, because she's done what God has called her to do.
