Food allergy? My lips are swollen, and very red.. almost "bloody" looking.?my lips are swollen, and very red.. almost "bloody" looking on the inside of my lips and gums. my lips have swelled 2 times this week i thought it was because they were raw and chapped, but i've been eating cherries recently and they are not a normal food that i have eaten until recently. Yesterday i ate cherries and with in 15 minutes my top lip swelled two hr later it went down, than last night my bottom lip swelled and tasted like blood i went and looked in my mouth and inside my lips where it tasted funny my lips were blood red and this morning they still are. they also kind of hurt and are tender.. Is this a normal symptom of a food allergy? and should i go to the dr. or will an antihistamine work?

Any swelling of the face, mouth and lips within minutes of eating or drinking a food, drug and insect bite or sting etc, is a symptom of Anaphylaxis, which is a severe allergic reaction, that needs immediate medical attention.

Do not eat any more cherries, as it is the likely cause for the reaction, certainly see your doctor or go to the ER. A antihistamine will help, but you may need something stronger.

The link below has an image of a little boy who has a anaphylaxis, if your lips and face as swollen as this then you need avoid cherries, and possibly see an allergist.
