Help! Meds are not helping my bronchitis!?I am at my wits end here. I don't know what to do. I've had bronchitis for 2 months now. Been to the doctor tons of times. First, they gave me an antibiotic and an albuterol inhaler. When that didn't work, they tried a different antibiotic... Which didn't work. Then they tried prednisone, taken orally, and a steriod inhaler (ventolin). My doctor said since I have had irritated lungs for so long, they are "acting like" a person with asthma's lungs. ((I don't have asthma.)) But nothing is helping, not even mucinex. I'm only 20, generally healthy, and I've been bed ridden for days barely able to breathe. My lungs feel like they are running the mile and just want to give up and take a rest. Help, I want to be able to breathe again! I'm scared.

Bronchitis is a general term that simply means "inflammation of the bronchi". It can have a large number of causes. Your doctor (or another doctor that isn't 'just guessing' like your present doc) needs to determine the CAUSE of the inflammation.
Assuming infections and systemic diseases have been ruled out, evaluating for an environmental trigger would be appropriate. Cigarette smoke, woodsmoke, other types of air pollution (indoors and outdoors), mold, dust, environmental chemical exposures, etc. should be assessed as possible causes.
Best wishes and good luck.

Try this: drink 8 oz of water. Dissolve a pinch (1/8 tsp) on your tongue and then wash that down with another 8 oz of water.
Wait about 45 minutes. If it hasn't helped, do all three steps again.
This should give you some relief.

Kay, so i'm a high school student and during middle school i had bronchitis for 2 years straight. I was freaking out. It was ruining my life. I would cough 24 hours a day. At night, my coughing would wake my up every few hours. My grades dropped because i was so tiered. My friends were grossed out. So i decided to ask my grandma ( who is Peruvian) Apparently, she had bronchitis for 30 YEARS straight. i asked what she did to cure it. She began by telling me that she got it by showering one night when it was really chilly. The next day she was in the hospital. At first she tried medicine for years. But that did garbage. Since my grandpa was a entrepreneur, he would go to the jungle often. So he found out about natural remedies that weren't garbage medicine, and things to avoid. My grandma gave me this list:
- Never NEVER NEVER shower with cold water
- Don't shower right before leaving on a cold day
- Don't EVER drink anything cold ( anyone will tell you to get plenty of fluids, but they don't specify that cold fluids freeze up the phloem in your throat0
- carbonated drinks are deadly
- this may sound gross, but the only way to eliminate the virus ( phloem ) is to expectorate, it will feel disgusting, and horrible, but you HAVE to get rid of the phloem which is causing the bronchitis
- the 2 BEST foods that will get you expectorating are LIMES and ( natural ) HONEY, limes are good because they are FULL of vitamin c, which breaks up the mucus
- this might be freaking and weird to do, but if you blow your nose and nothing comes out, take a thin slice of lime and put it up your nose. Leave it there for a few minutes, then take it out and you'll be able to blow your nose so much easier
- other good foods to incorporate in your diet to cure your bronchitis would be ginger (ugh i know), garlic, white onions, or any type of onion,
- oh and if you live in a cold area, cover your feet, hands, neck, and head, these are the places where the cold will penetrate and worsen your bronchitis
i did all these things and my bronchitis was cured
