How do I get my sister to quit smoking? My sister is only 18 years old and she has been addicted to cigarettes since she was in middle school. It has gotten a lot worse recently, especially since she can now buy cigarettes on her own.
She claims that she knows that she's addicted. She justifies her smoking because it helps her "de-stress."
She is currently unemployed, out of school, sleeps all day and stays up all night. She has no drive to do anything, and it seems an impossible feat to try and motivate her to actually DO anything.
Oh, and she also has asthma.
If anybody has any suggestions, references, etc PLEASE help. We want her to quit. It's never too late right?
Thank you.

If she doesnt care about the WARNING: THESE THINGS MAY KILL YOU IN THE LONG RUN message...then why would she care what you say?
Smokers have to WANT to quit.

fear is the best way to get rid off addiction .show some cancer patience bio who has cancer through smoking ,show some picture of a cancer patience .if she really want to get married want to lead a family life .than show her the detail that how a smoking mother could do harm her children even whey they were in her womb .show her a decent way to lead life .encourage her to live a happy life .frustration ,abandoned life may lead people to many kind of evil .so help her to get involved with people and jobs. that would make her self conscious.
its really tough to leave an addiction. so give her chocolates to keep .at-lest she could have something on her mouth when she need to smoke consult it with her.its a tested method

Of course not, it's never too late to start taking better care of yourself. However, you won't get anyone to do something they aren't interested in doing. She must want to quit if she is to truly succeed. First determine if she has that goal, if so, try some product to aid her or becomeanX.org if she is willing to dedicate some time to that. Suggest possible interesting alternatives for destressing, like yoga, other exercise, a new hobby, musical instrument....
If she doesn't want to quit don't try and force it. You'll have to subtley make her want to quit... Comment if she smells bad, breath, teeth, has oily skin (smoking will make your face oil smell and breakout). Say her car is filthy if there's ash all over. Cough? Say 'glad I never got a cough like that.' Don't directly attribute what you say to her habit because you'll reveal your motive and she might try to spite you by continuing. Get her friends to help you if they're willing. Eventually, she'll want to quit on her own because she'll feel slightly disgusting that everyone comments on her breath..
Additionally, regarding the sleeping habits, be on the lookout for id/credit cards lying around and lots of tissues being used because they are indicative of cocaine use. I'm not implying anything, it's just a possibility. SWIM is experienced with this

You should have her talk to people who have suffered from diseases caused by cigarette smoking. My girlfriend and I, both 19, talked to a man today who battled lung cancer from smoking. After hearing his story we threw away our cigarettes and now we're working on quitting.
