Is this asthma or what?I had asthma when I was a kid - the last time I had any real problem with it was about 15 years ago. I smoked for 10 years (and had no asthma symptoms) and now I have been a non-smoker for 14 months. I first noticed that I would get a sensation of shortness of breath while talking to someone while riding in a car. Over the next couple months I have had these "skipped breaths" from time to time where it feels like I skipped a breath (hence the name). My chest feels tight from time to time but never to a point where I feel I cannot breath. I went to the doc and did a test that showed I was mildly asthmatic but the doc said my seasonal allergies could be contributing to this so he prescribed me zyrtec-d and singulair. I just started taking the singulair last night and haven't really noticed anything yet. I went to a different doc for a second opinion and he says he believes it may be stress/anxiety. Now I wopuld love to believe that. But can you get the "skipped breaths" from being stressed? With all of this said, I am pretty active during the day and the trouble breathing only occurs when I am at rest in the evening hours. I know this is long and I appreciate anyone who read it all and double appreciate anyone with some advice or experience with this!

Jon ... based on your description ... it does not sound like asthma, although without appropriate history and diagnostic evaluation .. no one can really tell you anything with great certainty ....
My answer is based on when you have your symptomology ... I would tend to agree with your physician .. it sounds stress/anxiety related .... unless ... there is something in your home that is a contributing factor .... maybe you can try and go somewhere other than your home and see if you have symptomology when you are relaxed in the evenbing ... just a thought ... I wish you the best and hope this goes away for you .. or they isolate your symptoms to a causative factor ....
