I've got some intense breathing problems when I exercise, but I don't think it's asthma?Whenever I do intense exercise, such as sprinting or playing basketball, I get this extremely painful chest tightness and burning in my throat/bottom of my mouth. Lately it's been most noticeable when playing basketball. I also usually get nauseous.
The strange thing is that today, I played one-on-one with this guy for literally 3 or 4 minutes, probably less. The "asthma" took hold very quickly, and I couldn't breathe very well plus I really really felt like I was going to throw up.
The difference today was, apart from the fast onset, that I got lightheaded and dizzy. It was incredibly strange. Every color got incredibly bright, almost fluorescent. If I went in the shade the colors would go back to normal. I'm guessing this has something to do with the sun.
I've spoken to a doctor and he said I figured I have asthma, but an albuterol inhaler did not work for me. Has anybody else had a problem similar to this? If so, what is it called and what is the cure????
Reflux has been mentioned to me, because of where the burning occurs (it follows the path that air does when it exits my lungs). I currently take two pills before I go play basketball. The burning was less today than it was before, so I suppose those pills take care of that.
I had breakfast around 12, and went to play basketball around 1:30. Probably started playing intensely around 3. So I don't think food is a problem.
I have a hard time controlling my breathing, simply because I'm trying to play basketball and can never remember to breathe properly. I hold my breath when I take shots or drive. It's bad. I believe my breathing has something to do with it, so I'll work on that next time.
The heart thing scares me, but right now I don't have the money to go to the doctor. My health plan is crappy.
About albuterol: This was about 2 years ago. I don't have the inhaler anymore, since I didn't notice any difference back then.
About bronchitis: I don't really cough when this happens

could be acid reflux. See a gastroenterologist.

Ask yourself some questions:
1) Are you eating too close to your workouts? This can cause the nauseousness and/or burning feeling at the back of your throat.
2) Are you controlling your breathing? Hyperventilating can cause the bright lights, feeling like your going to pass out and panting.
If you can safely rule these out then you need to see another doctor because it could be something else.
Good luck ☼.

Go back to your doctor and tell him about your new symptoms. It now sounds heart related and this is serious. Some heart problems are difficult to diagnose, you can have them all your life and not be aware of them, and boom one day you're exercising and you collapse. Sounds like you are getting a warning here. Electical problems with your heart or bradycardia are possibilities...

You need to take 3 TUMS and 1 puff of albuterol BEFORE exercise.
When a person has exercise induced asthma, you must take the albuterol before you exercise. The Tums are of course for what seems to be acid getting up into your esophagus.
You can find out a lot about your heart by taking your pulse after exercise and see if it's going super fast or has any rhythm problems. Read up and see how fast your heart should go back to normal after exercise.
Anyway, if the Tums and albuterol taken before exercise don't work, I guess you should see the doctor again.
