sick child, resistant mother?

Do you find what you need? Look here!

sick child, resistant mother?I have a 5 year old son that has "allergies". His mother and I are seperated and working on a divorce. He has been sick with congestion, runny nose and cough for about 5 months now. I took him to Drs. and they treated the cough but it never went away. Finally I took him to an Ear/Nose/Throat speciallist and he said his tonsils were "a 3 out of 4" and probably needed to come out. He said try zyrtec and Nasonex for a couple of weeks to see if the symptoms get better and if not schedule to have tonsils, and adnoids removed probably just remove the fluid instead of tubes in the ears. A few nights ago my son had what looked like an asthma attack he had a hard time breathing. as I was preparing to take him to ER because he doesnt have astma the symptoms went away. the next AM I called his MD and he examined him and agreed with the ENT DR. My astranged wife doesnt want to have the surgery but instead whats a 3rd dr. to look at him in August. Is she OK? Does that seem rational?

The question to ask is what does she object to? The thought of your 5-year old going through surgery? Or does she not trust the diagnosis?
Tonsillectomy is a very quick, very safe, outpatient procedure. Your son would have general anesthesia, and the procedure itself takes about twenty minutes. The younger they are, the faster they seem to recover.
After the surgery, he should have fewer (and shorter, and milder) colds and less ear infections.
The number (3 out of 4) is a standardized system for talking about the size of the tonsils. At 3/4, your son's tonsils are significantly enlarged. At 4/4, the tonsils actually meet in the middle.
Maybe if she talked with the ENT or pediatrician she would feel more comfortable with both the diagnosis and the treatment.
