Asthma Info: Is there allergy teating for my cat in my area less than 150.00?

Other people asked questions on various topics, and are still
waiting for answer. Would be great if you can take a sec and
answer them

Is there allergy teating for my cat in my area less than 150.00?I have a female Abysinian Cat who has allerges to something, probably a protein in her food. The vet wants over 150.00 to test her. Is therea clinic in the Massachusetts area that will do this service for less? She isn't crazy about "allergy proof" cat foods and won't eat them. I've heard it's most likely chicken that is the problem but I can't be sure.

The problem is more likely to be a grain - probably corn - than it is chicken. It can also be a sensitivity to the by-products or preservatives in a food. Actually, the $ 150 is rather cheap - to go to a veterinary dermatologist for testing will cost significantly more than that. Try feeding her a chicken based food, but one that contains NO corn, NO by-products, and no chemical preservatives or dyes. With by-products, you have no idea of the body part, or sometimes even the animal it comes from, so that can cause issues for cats with food sensitivities as well. Go to the pet store and read labels, and you'lll find lots of choices there. Give that a try for a month, and if it works you'ree significantly better off than you are now, and if not, then you are back to where you are now.

Some cats truly are allergic to chicken, but corn is really the source of most issues with cats. I have two that cannot eat food with corn - one itches herself, the other has "tummy issues". We haven't fed foods with corn for years (and now push an all-canned diet) and everyone is better off.

Hi Betty,

I have an allergic cat, that also has Inflamatory Bowel Disease. He did well once we removed any chicken or beef from his diet. We switched him to Natural Balance venison and peas, and duck and peas. Most of the "allergy proof" foods are not really adored by cats, but our cat seems to like the Natural Balance variety. He was not keen on the Royal Canin hypo-allergenic food.

Natural Balance brand is available at PetCo, and on the internet at http://www.petfooddirect.com. It is half the cost of the Royal Canin, and actually contains 6 oz of product as opposed to 5.5 oz in the RC product.

We did not "test" our cat for allergies. We simply switched him over right away, to determine if this was the problem. That is another way to ascertain if the protein in chicken is the culprit. Most of the time it is, however.

We also added Pepcid AC 2.0 mg daily, and our vet had us give him vitamin B-12 shots for a few weeks, and he recovered quickly with all vomiting stopped.
After almost a year of this special diet, I asked my vet if we could slowly re-introduce Wellness turkey, and she thought it was ok. We did slowly introduce it, as he was getting really bored with the venison and duck varieties. Unfortunately after several feedings of the turkey food, he began vomiting explosively again. So it is back to the hypoallergenic diet, with no additions anymore.

So try changing your kitty over to the natural balance and see if it helps. Most cats have not eaten venison or duck, so have not developed any intolerance or allergies to them.

Hope this helps, and good luck to your kitty.

In cats, as in humans, allergies are common and have a myriad of causes. You can buy a bottle of Feline Stimmune online to help allieve your cat of her allergy symptoms. It is a herbal formulation that helps to alleviate cat allergies by maintaining natural balance within the body and by stimulating the immune system. It can also be used to treat recurrent infections and fatigue.
