What can I give to my 7yr old to relieve the pain of his ears "popping" while plane is taking off & landing? Some people say chew gum, move jaw open n close like he is eating, some say Dimetapp. Parents what are your best suggestions you believe in that have helped your kid(s) during travel?
My son does have allergy & sinus problems which I believe contributes to his pain.

Silocone ear plus placed correctly on the ear before entering the cabin can help. I have an inner ear problem and I have to use silicone ear plugs. While yawning and chewing gum help some people, it wouldn't help me. You can buy the silicone ear plugs at any drugstore or at a target or walmart.

I have very serious ear problems (had tubes as a child, then a hole repaired when I was 7, chronic ear infections to the point that i still get them quite often without pain). When I fly, I chew gum, stretch my mouth open wide, rub my ears, and yawn. My children (ages 18 m to 9 years) also do the same. Younger kids do better with just sucking on a bottle.

I always chew gum, it never helps all the way, but it does a little. I try to yawn too, and it relieves some of the pressure.

I used to fly, A LOT, as a kid, and I always chewed gum... It worked, almost every time. (I also wiggled my jaw around, and that worked the rest of the time.)
My kids chewed gum, when they flew, and had no probs.
