Can you develop an allergy to soy after a few months of prolonged exposure?I started drinking soymilk about oh say 6 or more months ago. Just recently I started getting sick when I drink it though. Within 20 minutes of drinking it, I get terrible stomach cramps and become rather violently ill.
I've never had any problem with this until recently. There have been no other changes in diet or medication either. It just sorta "popped up" on day and happens everytime I drink it now.

They told me to take soy for my hot flashes and symptoms of, well, you know - so after two weeks of taking it I became sick and irregular - turns out I'm one of the 6% that are allergic to it, so yeah, I'd lay off for a week, see what happens.

Definately seen this before. If you give these videos a chance it may spark you interest and help you to understand and research more. The majority of soy beans have been genetically modified to be immune to the pesticeds they use on the crops.

It may or may not be an actual allergy. An allergy is an immune system response, whereas an intolerance/sensitivity is just your body's inability to digest certain foods. Either one can develop at any time, regardless of how long you have been eating a food. Food intolerance, as well as allergies are becoming more and more common. Personally, I think it is related to the amount of chemicals in our food supply, as well as the genetic modifications being made to our foods, but time will tell on that issue. In the meantime, I'd stop drinking it since you've already noted a problem and keep track by reading ingredients and keeping a food diary of whether you have problems with all products containing soy, or just soy milk. You may just be sensitive to large quantities, in which case it is likely just a sensitivity and you'll need to watch the quantity you consume. An allergist would be able to tell with a simple blood test whether you have developed an actual allergy.
