Does anyone have a beagle who has asthma attacks or "backward sneezes"?I have a 6-year-old beagle who has these things like asthma attacks. I have researeched it some on the web and people call them "backward sneezes". She will never do it while we are at the vet and he also describes it as "backwards sneezes". He gives her allergy shots every 4 to 6 weeks, but this is not helping. She does it now on a daily basis. Sometimes I think she is going to stop breathing. The only thing that helps is to rub her chest, but I am not home all the time to do that. Is there any treatment that anybody knows of that will help this and is it life threatening?
My vet has not done any blood work, just shots. My 3-year-old Jack Russell mix has also been doing it some lately, but not as much as my beagle. He is also on allergy shots.

I have a shitzopoodle ( I spelled that wrong didn't I ? ) and he has the same type of "attacks". I am looking forward to more answers.

My beagle does this sometimes too, especially if I use a collar on him, so I switched to a harness to walk him. I don't know of anything to stop it, but I don't think it's fatal. You may want to get a second opinion from a different vet. See the link below...

Has your vet taken blood tests yet?, If not,take her to a different vet.I have a Jack Russell who had that problem and it turned out to be allergies and he's just great now.My vet has him on pills not shots because he said it would be better to find out what he was allergic to and just treat those allergies,rather than give him shots that could give him adverse side affects.

I don't know if I'm correct but I have a beagle and she also does that. It is heartworms. If you've been to the vet already for this then I may be wrong. But if he hasn't checked for that then it may be heartworms.
