How long does it take to be "immune" to cat allergies?(no shots or meds)?If I were to get a cat, how long would it take for me to stop getting allergic reactions? (assuming that what another Y! answerer is correct about immunity being developed)
I get allergic reactions when I touch a cat, but not when I touch its shedded fur on furniture etc.
If shots and meds are the only options, how safe are they and what can they cost? Sounds like you have to take them frequently.

I have been allergic to my cats since I was a kid. My allergies have never went a way. Cats are the only thing I am allergic to and I have always been. I do not think allergies just go away. Good luck though!

I have cat allergies and the answer...you just deal. There are good days and there are bad things.
The tricky thing about allergies is that they can actually get worse the more you are exposed to the allergen.
I take Zyrtec...yea it knocks me out just a little even though I am told it is non drowsy. Benedryl just plain knocks me out.
Your best bet would be to talk to your doctor and depending on the severity of your allergies you may need a hypoallergenic breed....yea they have them. Also a hairless might be your best bet. They may be ugly but they have wonderful loving personalities and are great companions.

I am allergic to my cat but not really that bad. When I first got her, I would sneeze and get runny noses. But now, I think I've gotten use to her or that could just be I dont notice my allergies a lot. But yoiu will never be immune to them. I still might sneeze around her or get really poofy eyes, but its rarely. IDK about you though.
