Someone explain how does someone have an allergic reaction to an allergy medicine?

Other people asked questions on various topics, and are still

Someone explain how does someone have an allergic reaction to an allergy medicine?I was overlooking my box of Clartin and noticed it said "if allergic reaction occurs seek medical attention". My question how can you be allergic to medicine that suppose to fight against allergic reactions. No Im not allergic to it, but I was just curious.

-Q
Individuals can be sensitive to one or more of the chemical constituents in any particular medication, but not to others.

It's the same reason that several varieties of pain medication are available -- aspirin, Tylenol, ibuprofen. All the medications do the same thing (relieve pain), but people with a sensitivity to aspirin (usually causing stomach discomfort or pain) may be able to take Tylenol or ibuprofen with no adverse side-effects.

If you happen to have an allergic response to one or more of the chemicals comprising either the active ingredients or the inactive ingredients, then the cure could prove much worse for you than the cause.

The solution would be to find a medication with a different combination of ingredients to each of which you have no allergic reaction.

[For example, if you're sensitive to peanut oil, then don't use a suntan lotion with peanut oil in it -- there are other suntan lotions out there that are just as effective, but don't contain peanut oil (maybe they use coconut or palm oil.)]
