My recruiter told me to lie at MEPS. I did. I enlisted. now what?he talked about how the people at MEPS are there for the sole purpose to disqualify as many people as they can. So they use a lot of scare tactics and over-exaggerate to get people to inherently disqualify themselves.
We discussed things like being prescribed (but never needing) an inhaler for "asthma" when I was about 9 or 10. I never had any problems though. Played varsity soccer in high school just fine without any breathing problems. he told me to just say no that i never had asthma.
also, i was in a traffic accident and it was possible that i would have gotten a ticket, but never did. the police said that they may or may not write me up for one because i was about to turn 18 in a few days and that my record would be wiped clean. 3 years later, never received notice of it. he told me to leave that information out too.
when i was in high school i got mixed up with the wrong crowd and tried marijuana. when i signed up for air force ROTC at one point, i admitted to it, and was put on a probation status until i got it waived. i ended up quitting anyway before that happened. eventually i came back to the program for other reasons, but when i signed up again, i put that i did NOT use marijuana. I was fearful of the whole probationary thing and not being able to get in. anyway, my conscience got to me and i ended up coming clean and then they kicked me out. i don't even know if they had my record since i was only in for 1 semester non-contracted when i admitted to it. Whether or not they still have my record is unknown. It wouldn't make sense to keep so many useless non-contracted cadet records since hundreds of people try it and just quit after the first semester each year. anyway, he told me to lie to MEPS and say that I never used marijuana. he said that it would be impossible for them to find out even with the AFROTC thing.
so i listened to him and just kept the story straight throughout MEPS. passed everything. i got a 90 on my ASVAB and i swore in. Now I'm just worried about getting caught for fraudulent enlistment somehow.
when they do background checks and FBI stuff, who do they contact? all the references you provided? no questions asked about any prior AFROTC involvment whatsoever so how would they even know that i tried that program a few years ago? he said that pretty much if you marked no then they won't bother to check most of those things. other wise they wouldnt have that questionnaire
should i be worried about this? i'm just reading a bit about how some people are saying all recruiters are liars and it's worrying me. I don't want to get a dishonorable discharge and jail time i was just listening to what the recruiter told me to do
it was AFROTC for college, i am now enlisted in the ARMY. just to clarify
i'm going through SMP/ROTC for army
Hoping for intelligence MOS when I become an officer in 2 years. currently through SMP i am already picked out for a local intel unit for guard duty.
and lucky me i don't have a facebook :-)

It's not a big deal when you keep it a secret. Otherwise, it could have some military consequences, if an irrational hard-ass finds out, but not major ones.

They really don't care as long as it wasn't more than a couple of times on the marijuana and not a regular smoker.
For the security clearance SF 86 stuff they go back 7 years now and will get touch with neighbors, employers, friends, relatives, and they really like tracking down ex-girlfriends for juicy stuff.

Its all scare tactics. Once you are in you will come to find out that almost everybody lied about something. The military isnt some all powerful seeing eye that knows everything. They have better things to do then rifleing through records of what people were doing when they were kids.

Hello Chapstick:
Keep your mouth shut from this point on.
A. Unless you are needing a Top Secret clearance for your AFSC (Air Force Specialty Code) job, which you don't even have YET, there will not be a Background check. Secret clearances are run through a national agency computer check. Only for Top Secret clearances do they physically talk with "people" about you.
B.Asthma. You have to have had asthma episodes from age 13 years of age to present day to have it be a medical problem for medical disqualification. So keep your mouth shut. You are now over 18 years old and 5+ years have past. You don't have asthma! If you get sick at basic training then go to the hospital. If you can't continue on the AF will separate you and send you home.
C. If you were never issued a traffic ticket then there is NONE. Consider that the patrolman gave you a verbal warning.
D. Are you talking about Junior AF ROTC in high school? Why didn't you complete it? It would have helped you understand and learn about the AF better. But, don't mention marijuana unless they bring it up. But, do be truthful about marijuana and your possible one-time experimental use.
E. Nobody gets a dishonorable discharge or jail time if they are being eliminated from the military for fraudulent enlistment. The AF and military services are not interested in spending money to Court-Martial people. You can only get a Dishonorable Discharge if you are convicted in a military General Court-Martiala. They are just administratively separated and send home. The administrative mechanism of "Entry Level Separation" is the way the military "kicks people out" while they are still in early training status. Period.
Best wishes,
