How come on packets of chocolate i always see a cautionary warning of "May contain traces of nuts or peanuts"?I understand why - as in, that there are people with nut allergies. However, what im asking is, how does this contamination occur? Don't the manufacturers have ways to isolate the ingredients somehow? How would peanuts get into the chocolate in the first place?

A lot of chocolate is made in a factory that also makes nutty sweets too, so they have to put the warning on there!

Hope this helps.

Because they run on the same machine as the peanuts do and that may cause allergic reactions to certain people.

Because of the mixing aspect when making chocolate bars with nuts. The tiny fragments can get lodged in the machinery during this process. The reason for the warning is some people are highly allergic to peanut or/and peanut oil. Their faces will get real red or could also break out in a rash.
