How did everyday medical problems get "treated" in the 1800's?As a mom there are days that I think I am having a hard day until I think about how women did it in the 1800's. How did they deal with things like, diaper rash, teething babies, diarrhea, allergies, colic, menstral cycles, yeast infections, urinary tract infections, sinus infections, ear infections etc etc, in the 1800's. You know the stuff we just can go straight to the doctor for now. Anyone know?
Thanks!

They often used home remedies or things that are seen as "alternative medicine" today. In the days of modern medicine, many of these old remedies have been lost or forgotten in favour of advances in medicine. Unfortunately, in those days it was also more common for things seen as relatively minor illnesses now to get out of control and be really dangerous; for example, a minor ear infection that could be easily treated today might have gotten serious and caused permanent deafness back then. The best input I can give is to say not to dismiss traditional home remedies, but also be glad that we now have modern medicine as a backup if they don't fix the problem.
