How long does"24-hour" loratidine (i.e. Claritin) REALLY stay with you?Hi all! :) My question today is about loratidine, the antihistime popularized in Claritin, but which is also available as a generic.

All the packages I see in stores (whether Claritin or store brand) have pills that are 10 mg. each. The instructions claim they're "24-hour" formulas, and that you shouldn't take another loratidine, or any other antihistimine, within that time period.

Does ANYONE truly get 24-hour relief from 10 mg. of loratidine?? I love this antihistime because it relieves my cold and/or allergy symptoms amazingly well, and it does not cause drowsiness. :) However, after 12 to 14 hours, my symptoms come back. The drug is NOT effective in me for 24 hours -- not even close!! :(

I happen to have a fast metabolism (I can eat a lot and not gain weight), so I wonder if perhaps that's why the medicine's effects don't last long enough for me?

look let me tell yoiu, i was a big fan of claritin. then my doctor put me on loratidine, and i was soo mad, because i wanted the real thing. But i used it, because hell i needed it. So as i used it, i felt immediate relief all day long, just the same as claritin. Its excellent. it works the same as claritin maybe better and faster, instant relief!!

Same here - about 12 hours. I take a Claritin or an Allegra in the morning and a Benadryl or a Chlortrimeton at night.

I used to take Claritin and it lasted just about 24 hours which was perfect because I'd remember to take it when I started feeling yucky. At the same time I tend to be rather sensitive to drugs and they tend to last in my system so it may be designed to only last 24-hours in us slow pokes.

My youngest is on loratidine all the time. It helps him through the school day. I give him his at bedtime because if I give it to him in the mornings, he claims he gets a little drowsy around mid-morning.
