In your experience, is there a "hypo-allergenic" cat?

Hi,I did the following:

In your experience, is there a "hypo-allergenic" cat?I have heard that sphynxes, rexes, cornish rexes, and siberians are "hypo-allergenic." Have you ever experienced or witnessed someone with cat allergies who was NOT allergic to these breeds?

-gracy
no, but shave any breed of cat and it'll become a hypo-allergenic cat

-Sacha
A Mexican Hairless? Though you might want to check out if the allergy is to cat dander or cat saliva. I've heard in the past that cat allergies are often due to their saliva.

-???? Profit!!
Sphynxes are hypo-allergenic, in the case of people who are allergic to the fur.
You can have allergies to cat saliva etc, but people allergic to cat fur won't have a problem with this breed.

Hypo means low not no. So a breed that may not cause a problem in one allergic person may cause a sever reaction in another. The breeds you listed along with Abys, Korats and a few others are less likely to produce an allergic reaction than some other breeds but they can still produce a reaction in some people. If you are allergic to cats you should spend time with members of those breeds to see if they produce a reaction in you.

Also note that most people who are allergic to cats are not allergic to hair but to a protein that is in the dander. Breeds that are considered low allergy tend to either produce less dander or less of the protein. So shaving down just any cat as one poster suggested will not make it hypo-allergenic
