Is there some kind of oil allergy?A friend of mine always makes food using no oil. She says she will become very ill if she eats anything made with oil. Whenever she goes out to eat, she has to "train" the cooking staff on how to prepare her food because there cannot be any oil in it. There's no specific kind of oil either. Just no oil or she will get sick. Can this be true? I've never heard of such a thing.

I've heard of people having trouble digesting fats. I have a corn allergy so corn oil made me sick, maybe it is not all oils, but she thinks it is all of them. People who have been on a diet and not eating a lot of oils do get very sick if they eat something fried. Their body adjusts to it's new eating habits and it is a shock to their system to eat something fatty or full of oil.

Anybody can be allergic to anything, but not usually to everything.

Actually the answer to this is yes. Most oils are mixed.
Anyone having an allergy to certain foods may also have allergies to oils. I have included a link to other known foods that can cause allergies. I have a friend that is allergic to shrimp. My friend has to be very careful ordering fried foods because the shrimp can transfer to other foods if cooked in the same oil.
Vegetable oil allergy
Vegetable oil is usually a blend of oils. In the UK, the oils used the most to make up vegetable oil are soya, rapeseed, sunflower, maize, palm, coconut and palm kernel oils. Where they appear in pre-packed food, these oils will have been refined. The refining process removes proteins from the oil. Since it's the proteins in oils that can cause allergic reactions, sensitive people probably won't react to refined oils. Some speciality oils, such as sesame and walnut, aren't refined, so they are best avoided by people who are sensitive to the nuts or seeds they are made from.
