Is it possible to develop an immunity from allergies over time?I have ridiculously ridiculous allergies right now, this spring, and I remember someone mentioning they decided to combat the terrible, costly "disease" and stopped taking allergy medicines like Claritin, Zyrtec, etc. and over time they're body just got used to it and the allergies went away as if they strengthened their immune system. Is that even possible?

Supposedly allergy shots (Immunology) sp??? can build up immunity to allergies. However, you have to get shots for 3 years. When you start out you get them 3 times a week, and then after a while you will get them like once a month until you are immune to the allergies

Some people outgrow allergies they had has children, but generally once you have reached adulthood, allergies don't magically disappear until the immune system starts to decline with advanced age. Its not possible to reduce allergies by building up immunity. Allergic reactions are an exaggerated immune response to begin with so a strengthened immune system causes allergies to get worse. Your friend's experience is rare, and possibly only an coincidence.
Allergy shots expose a person to larger and larger quantities of allergens, which theoretically, overwhelms the immune system by attracting all of the avialable antibodies to the shot locale, so no antibodies are left to attack other sites. Even this process is not one where you build immunity - its a process that defeats the immune system.
