Could I have "lost" my singing voice by coughing? Will and when will it come back?Because of allergies, I've been coughing a lot lately. I've noticed that I've "lost" my singing voice too. Not to brag, but usually I have an above-average singing voice, but lately it's not been gone, but waay worse than usual. Is this because of the coughing? Why? Will it come back? When? Thanks!! I really do need my voice to sing!

While prolonged and excessive coughing can affect you voice (and singing voice) in the short term and even permanently, it's more likely that you're suffering the affects of deep sinus congestion. Even if you can breath freely through your nostrils, allergies can cause sinus congestion that results in an "off voice."

As you allergies clear up, your voice will most likely return to normal.

Good luck and hope you feel (and sound) better soon.
