Why don't people fix their allergies instead of getting these ridiculous "hypoallergenic" dogs?

Other people asked questions on various topics, and are still
waiting for answer. Would be great if you can take a sec and
answer them

Why don't people fix their allergies instead of getting these ridiculous "hypoallergenic" dogs?$ 150 dollars was all it took to cure my cat and MAJOR dust/dustmite allergies. Allergy drops (an alternative to the shots) fixed it for just $ 50/vial, and it's a 3 vial program with different concentrations and dosages, and you do it yourself. All you have to do is see an allergist and then pick up the vials from them.

If it's that simple to fix allergies, why is there a need for these supposed "hypoallergenic" dogs? Why would you pay upwards of $ 2,000 for one of them when fixing allergies is cheaper?

I'm just trying to understand why people with allergies find this necessary. I'd rather have my allergies fixed instead of not visiting friends due to my allergies to their pets.

Can anyone make this make sense?!?
Jesse Rocks: I know that there's no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog. That's why I put it in quotes.

My allergies used to be very severe. I went into anaphylactic shock on the shots. I only had two medicines ever work: Allegra (but they changed the formula and it no longer worked), and Chlortrimeton (over the counter, still works, but makes me awfully drowsy). No pills would work, nor would the shots. My parents tried everything, and then we found the drops. I'm just saying that there are other alternatives. People just quit though when one medicine doesn't work, and I don't understand why. I hated my allergies and wanted to be done with them.
PP: My condolences. It's good to see you again though!

Because "hypoallergenic" dogs are popular at the moment and people love throwing around the word "hypoallergenic" for some reason. Maybe due to it's high value in Scrabble?

Fixing allergies isn't as cute and cuddly as impulsively buying a Goldendoodle. People want the hybrid designer hypoallergenic dogs for the same reason they wanted a Yorkie or Maltese 5 years ago. Dogs come and go out of style like a brand of jeans.

It's called stupidity. Im afraid you'll have to deal with it.

There are no hypoallergenic breeds of cats or dogs, period. The hairless ones are actually worse because they have no hair to catch the dander.

I am severely allergic to cats and dogs. I live with 3 cats and 1 dog indoors and volunteer at an animal rescue. I take a Claritin everyday.
