Dennis and Jill's Heartwarming Hospital Wedding Story
Dennis King and Jill Miles married August 20, 2011 at the Buena Vista Country Club in Buena, New Jersey before more than 170 guests. The public wedding followed their private nuptials May 7, 2011 in King's hospital room at the Heart Institute at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus in Pomona when King was critically ill from heart failure. In thanksgiving for the life-saving work by, and compassion of the hospital team, the couple asked that wedding attendees who wanted to give them a gift instead make a donation to AtlantiCare Hospice and Palliative Care, of which King has been a long-time supporter. The couple's heart-warming story King, owner of Exclusive Jewelers in Egg Harbor Township, and Miles, an inspector for the Atlantic County Health Department, had planned to marry in the summer. Miles recalled that her fiancé was having trouble breathing and getting progressively worse. "He did not want to go to a doctor and hadn't been to see one in years," she said. She, family and friends convinced King to see Ira Stein, MD, FACP, a physician on ARMC's Medical Staff, who referred King to the Heart Institute. "By the time he came to us Mr. King was a very sick man," explained Shannon Patel, RN, PCCN, CMC, clinical supervisor, heart failure patient advocate, Heart Failure Clinic, the Heart Institute at ARMC.
