Advair.. is it dangerous for a teenager with mild asthma?I have mild-moderate asthma and was prescribed advair coupled with my regular inhaler. I only have trouble breathing during track season when I start running. Is advair really that dangerous, especially for a teenage girl with mild asthma?? The commercials say it "may cause asthma-related death?!?!"
I really have no breathing problems except when I run...
I was told 2 puffs twice a day.. which seemed a little much.

I'm 29 and had exercise induced asthma has a teen I was on serevent then but I'm now on Advair and it works great for me. I have mild to moderate asthma myself and I use Advair everyday it helps when I have to walk up stairs and long walks where my breathing gets labored. Also I keep Proventil with me for a quick fast release when I need it. Your not going to die if you take it the right way and don't exceed taking it more than twice a day.

If you only have mild asthma that your regular inhaler controls, there's no need for you to be on Advair.
It can have some pretty serious side effects, including making asthma worse. I'd really talk to your doctor about why they feel you should be on it. If they don't have any better reason then "It's new, so it might do something" tell them your concerns and consider stopping it.

Your Advair is not a rescue inhaler. It is to be used as your doctor ordered...this is usually 1 puff twice a day. No More. It contains two medications. One of these is a corticosteroid, so make sure you rinse your mouth after you use it. The other one has been known to have cardiac effects when misused. This is a maintenance drug. You should also have your Albuterol (yellow, or blue) inhaler or your Combivent. These are the ones to take to the track meet.
