I've been sick for almost a month, what should I do?I went to the doctors twice and they said the same thing "It's your asthma and allergies". The first time around, they gave me Flonase and a refill on my Albuterol/Xopanex. I haven't really gotten any better, I actually think it got worse. At night time it's the worst. I start wheezing and coughing even more - sometimes I cough up phlegm. I use my inhaler which helps for awhile but it makes me tremble and the cough/wheezing comes back. My friends said my cough is getting worse and my voice sounds different. Also, both of my breasts are really tender, sometimes my chest is tight, and sometimes my ribs hurt. Should I go to the hospital, see my doctor again, what? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. :-*
Woops, didn't mean to post additional information twice. If it matters any, I'm 16 years old going on 17.
Also, I've been more tired than usual. I get random body aches. My muscle spasms are causing me pain which never happened before. The heat doesn't help at all. I've waken up a few times really hot even though my ceiling fan was on along with another fan and I was only underneath one cover.

Get a second opinion. That means go to the doctor again, but go to a different doctor this time.

Gee, I don't know, but if my daughter asked me this, I'd tell her to see a doctor as soon as possible.
I think your doctors were right, but something else is going on.
When I have questions for myself, I scroll through Web MD for answers. I'll let you do that for yourself, if you want, because I don't want to slow you down.

This sounds like exactly what I have and the doctors said it was a sinus infection. Colds/flu can quickly turn into a sinus infection that can become bronchitus which can become pneumonia. So, what you have isn't all that serious. You can fight it on your own but if you have asthma you need to be kept under close watch because you are at a higher risk. I would try to get back to the doctor within 3 days. If that's not possible, head for the urgent care. The ER is your last resort but if you have to go there.
Some asthma medications contain steroids which can cause breast tenderness, I believe. You might also have tender breasts because of your menstral cycle and therefore it may be unrelated but it's worth mentioning.
In the meantime, try this regimin to reduce symptoms.
1. Take an OTC degongestant and expectorant. Avoid cough suppressants. The cough is your body's way of expelling the mucus and you need to cough that out. The decongestant may thick your mucus but it will alleviate the congestant. The best degongestants are kept behind the counter now and you will need to be over 18 with an ID to get them. Get the sudafed (not the 12 hour stuff) that they keep behind the pharmacy counter if possible. Follow package directions!
2. Hook up a humidifier and add some vicks. Dry, cold air can irritate your cough and asthma. Warm, humid air will make it easier to cough up the junk in your bronchial tubes.
3. Try warm teas with honey. Decaf is best because caffiene may cause stomach upset and dehydrate. Avoid sodas and dairy products until your congestion clears without the help of a decongestant. This means cheese, milk, yogurt and coffee creamer are definate no nos. They'll make the congestion worse. Drink extra water over the 64 fl oz you should be drinking daily.
4. Sleep. Make sure you're getting at least 8 hours of sleep. Sleep helps your body heal. When you sleep, prop yourself up with some extra pillows and keep the humidifier next to your bed. If you don't have extra pillows or this is uncomfortable, put some books under the legs of your bead where your head is.
5. If you have an asthma attack and your rescue inhaler isn't working, call someone to take you to the ER. It isn't wise or safe for you to drive because you may pass out.
I'm sorry you're sick and I hope you feel better. Antibiotics are the only thing I know of that can cure a sinus infection aside from trying to let it run its course. You can try to sweat it out but you risk dehydration if you do that so be careful.

I could be wrong but the H1N1 flu may be in you. In regular flu, your body aches. This is not always the case with this type of flu. A number of people who have problems with their breathing can be affected in their lungs. Also, the younger you are, the greater the chance that you will be affected (especially if you are under 25). Get to the hospital and tell them that it's getting worse and it may be H1N1.
Oh, people like you have been dieing from this so I wouldn't wait!
