controlled scientific studies has a 'control': this is where something is tested against the same condition without the 'treatment'
eg. two people with high blood pressure with similar lifestyles diet, etc. are montiored over a period of time. one meditates[in this example] one doesn't. both are measured.

Controlled scientific studies means that the situation can be easily recreated within a specific environment. There really isn't anything ground breaking here. Both prayer and meditation slow and deepen each breath. This hyperoxygenates the brain/blood.
