What is the big deal about natural candles? Is there a difference - a candle is a candle -right?Are there really candles out there that are better than others? My concern is that I love to burn candles, but my daughter has been diagnosed with "reactive airway disease" (not quite asthma, but it could become asthma) and I "all of a sudden" have allergies (to something). My allergist can't seem to find out what my allergies are stemming from - patch test didn't reveal anything.
My daughter is only a few months old. I am thinking maybe it's the type of candles I burn that could be making things worse. I don't burn them in the nursey (or even close), but air does move. Need real help - thanks!

well first of all there is a huge difference, candles have an environmental impact, some are made from paraffin which is from whales i believe, soy candles are probably the most natural and do not usually have chemicals added. Concerning smells, that is the route I would go, look for soy candles made with natural oils and extracts that are not heavy are harmful. Anything that has a smell, candles, air fresheners, household cleaners ect...are harmful, most of these contribute to people being diagnosed with asthma ...if you are just looking for a fresh smell, try potpourri, or a bowl of fresh fruit, like lemons, fresh cut flowers, like lavender, drops of vanilla, ect....goodluck

I would think so I love candles, their pretty and most of them smell really nice. It might be the candles or the weather with the pollen & everything.

Beeswax is the ONLY natural candle material I know of. The others, Paraffin and Soy are manufactured waxes.
The scents used in candles can cause asthmatic conditions.
But, is this a new home, or do you have new furniture or carpeting? Sometimes it is the preservatives used in these things that we are allergic to. Like, most carpets and furniture are sprayed with formaldehyde. Sometimes the insulation is sprayed with it also. This is to prevent bugs!
