When will the gov't listen to hard-working Americans? My parents worked HARD jobs & we were still just managing to struggle by. I was taught to work hard & go to college to have the life I want. I have done so thus far. But I'm curious... why does 27% of my income go to Welfare, FICA, and Medicare? TWENTY-SEVEN PERCENT?!?!
I have never in my life lived on "assistance". How/why is it my "American obligation" to pay for others to do so? This isn't a socialist country-- my money should go to my family, not some losers who won't go out & get a job. I'm sure some of you think I'm being judgmental, but it's really hard not to be when the first of the month rolls around & all these creepy people crawl out of their trashy apartments & swarm the grocery stores buying beer & cigs with *my* (and your) hard earned money. My mom's sister gets disability b/c she "has asthma".... well, I have asthma & it's never stopped me from working.
Anyway, 27% seems much too high-- especially in this economy. It is not my job to pay anyone else's bills-- especially when I can barely pay my own. Does that seem too high for you? Can I talk to someone about this? Who?

We have to pay taxes or no army, police, fire, etc. Are we paying too much ? yes
But get the bums off.

When the lobbyist are out of Washington and people have a voice again. 27% is too high yes, but don't lump FICA and Medicare in with Welfare, the 3 are so not related. Your gripe is a legit one. America's welfare system is a broken one. Get on it stay on it. Is it bad? No, when used the "right way." By that I mean use it if you need it but don't abuse it, which is what to many do. "Poor is me" is the cry. I am legally blind in one eye but, save about a year, have worked since 1991. Welfare isn't a bad thing. The government helps you when you need it. The problem is to many people EXPECT help when they are perfectly capable of helping themselves. To lazy to find a job. Don't want to cause of the life they have now. Here's the sad thing: most American's could quit the job's they own and go on welfare and be better off. You get most if not all of you medical expenses paid for, you get free food, and you get that check each and every month. The problem with that however is that most people have enough pride and self-worth to not do it. When push comes to shove you do what you need to do to survive. Jobs are scarce and sometimes there is more month than money. Would I go totally on the system? If I needed to. If it meant putting food in my kids bellies and keeping a roof over them, then yes I would. Would I feel good about it? Hell no. But I would to make sure they were taken care of. When you have no money coming in and nowhere else to turn then you government should help. Key word there is help not support.
