How do I deal with a hypochondriac friend?

These are useful and collceted by Asthma Info!

How do I deal with a hypochondriac friend?I have this friend who just collects diseases. Every time her hands turn blue, she flips out and finds some "disease" for it. Every time the skin on her feet peel, she finds another "disease" for it. She also has sweet-talked doctors into giving her plastic surgery (for a teeny tiny scar), and putting some sort of metal bar in her chest because she has asthma and doesn't want to use her inhaler. She's a hypochondriac. It really annoys me sometimes that she goes looking for illnesses for herself and not caring about other people's health issues. She's also only twelve! I had plastic surgery when I was 10 TO REMOVE PRE-CANCER, and they didn't even put any physical plastic or silicone in there. I don't want to change her, but I still want to be her friend.

She also jokes about a lot of things that make me upset, such as drug addictions and suicide. I have gone through an abusive relationship and she doesn't understand that suicide isn't funny.

What should I do about her? I can't just "stop being her friend". She's in a group I usually hang out with.

Other people feel the same way about her and she seems to shove herself into our group even though we don't want to hang out with her. And also, she copies my work a lot and says its her own, which is crap.

What do I do?

Tell her that it bothers you, but that's about as much as you can do!
I have a friend similar to this too. She's always "dying" with some sort of rare disease just from a simple stomach ache or cough! You can try reasoning with her, but from experience, i can tell you that it doesn't work. Basically, just tell her that it bothers you, but for the most part, your just going to have to deal with it if you want to stay friends! Good luck!
