Can an allergy sufferer live with a dog?I am looking in to getting a Boxer, but my mom is allergic to dogs.
According to the woman at the pet shop, Boxers are "borderline hypoallergenic", and it's possible my mom wouldn't have a problem because our house is completely tile (which means there is no carpet for the dander to collect in).
She also said that using a special shampoo, and a "Furrminator" brush can help avoid allergies.
So my thoughts are that with all of these combined factors, my mom shouldn't have a problem.
Help please?!

An allergy sufferer can in fact live with a dog (I'm on of them), but I wouldn't suggest a boxer. They shed lots. If I were you I would go with a dog with hair, not fur. They rarely shed at all (I have a Yorkie/Poodle mix puppy pictured in my icon who hasn't irritated my allergies once).
Some of these breeds include. . .
+ Yorkies
+ Poodles (Standard, Minature, and Toy)
+ Irish and American Water spainels
+ All sizes of schnauzer
+ Shih Tzu
+ Border Terrier
+ Portugese water dog
+ Maltese
etc. . .

Don't listen to the lady in a pet shop. She only wants to sell you a dog so she gets commission.
If you are considering raising a dog, you will need to find a reputable breeder, they are knowledgeable in their chosen fields. If your mother's allergy gets worst and you cannot keep the dog any longer, they will always take the dog back. Pet shops won't. Because pet shops don't care.
Some people who are allergic to dogs can tolerate living with them. It depends on how allergic they are. There are always options like medication, and allergy shots (about 50% effective for dog dander).
But I would suggest you look up other breeds that are in general more tolerable for allergy sufferers, you might be able to find a breed that you like as much as a boxer.

Here's a list of hypoallegenic dogs. Unfortunately, i can't seem to find boxer on the list. I added a few articles regarding dog allergies which you may find helpful.
good luck!

Some dog breeds are hypoallergenic. Google it. A few examples are poodles and some terriers but there are some more manly lookin dogs that are too. Most are small and do not shed or shed so little you don't realize it.
Depends on how affected your mom thinks she is to dogs. The furrminator helps remove the undercoat which is where a lot of shedding, and allergies, lie before falling into the furniture and floor.
Its not a miracle brush, but its fine.
The boxer cant be that bad for allergies, it sound more or less like an excuse.
