Why do people see a distinction between "human" food and "dog food?

Why do people see a distinction between "human" food and "dog food?Beyond known allergies.
I don't see a difference at all and in nature we'd all eat basically the same food so why do people see a distinction??
Thanks.
I don't get why people think there is
"dog food" and "human food".
I always thought there was just food.
It's like people always saying "don't fee your dog anything but kibble and maybe some canned food, anything else will make them sick!" I just don't get it.
Carolyn: I have to disagree, my dogs are fed something new everyday and eat PLENTY of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as meat and eggs.
I don't feed canned dog food or kibble to my animals they get diversity.
Mandy: ONE of my dogs prefers vegetables over meat actually. LOL.
He'd rather chew a carrot then he would a bone.
Opt to Adopt: I know humans don't need meat, I'm vegan LOL.
Actually dogs don't need meat they can live on a vegan diet, the longest living dog in the world was raised on only organic produce.
My dogs get meat though.
Humans: Omnivore/Herbivore
Dog: Omnivore/Carnivore
Cat: Obligated carnivore.
Marti exactly!
Like something like Purina APPEARS to be nutritionally balanced BUT it contains lots of meat by products which you've already described, promotes corn and soy on their website as a good protein source and relies heavily on artificial preservatives to make the food last some of which are carcinegnics like... Why would you feed your dog that??
BTW my dogs are organic as well.
The question is "Why do people think that dogs can't have "human" food when our food is so much more nutritious then theirs is!!
I don't count junk food as human food anyways, it's not really food.
MOST dog foods are crap as well...

I think the only difference should be the amount of meat in the diet.

I'm confused on what your asking...

Canines tend to eat more meat than humans do (humans don't NEED to eat meat)
Most people feel more comftorable with feeding their pet kibble rather than watching their dog crunch on the bones of a cute little cow or chicken.

Dogs need a balanced diet, both meat AND vegtables.

As for dogs not being able to handle the variety of the human diet, thats a load of bull.
Dogs actully like to have variety, my grandparents do raw feeding for their eight dogs (switching from chicken to bef to turkey and occasionly lamb with pumpkin, cilantro, and other extra nutrients)
The shelter I volunteer at uses a mix of high wuality dog foods, mixes in some rice, mixed vegtables, chicken, and soy protien and they LOVE it, and all of them are healthy and have great coats.

There is an obvious difference when it comes to human food, and dogs food. If you dont think there is a big difference, how about you taste it out for all of us, and let us know what you think. But yes, as the others have said, the dogs food is specifically meant for their species.

Because dog food is the same everyday when you feed it to them. As humans we eat different things everyday. If you give your dog something new everyday their stomach would just about die. Animals can't handle "people" food. Plus we use a lot of spices, oils and fat into our foods while the dog foods are well balanced. Hope this helps.
