My 6 yr old Pomeranian is always "snorting" is this normal?I think he may have allergies but, some friends say it's because of his short nose.

I think it is normal. our dog does that too, my husband & I call it "snarfing". (c:

he does it when he's excited.

But it could also be allergy related. If you are really concerned about it, take him to the vet.

Well, I have an 8-year-old Yellow Labrador Retriever and she snorts and sighs and grunts all the time. It seems to be just another way of communicating, at least for my dog. For example, she'll be waiting to go outside, and she'll snort at us as if she's saying 'Hurry up!'. Also, I know at least one other dog that snorts often. If you're still worried, call and check with your vet.

Good luck!

it could just be the way his/her body is built or it has an allergy OR something is up there. my aunts dog was sniffing a little piece of a cattail and it got stuck up its nose. had to get it surgically removed

If he has a really short nose he could be suffering from an elongated palette. I recently rescued a Boston with the same problem. It can be very uncomfortable for the dog and in extreme cases, they can throw up or pass out! Luckily, theres a simple surgery to correct it, my Bostie can't remember not being able to run and play and the snorting is gone!
