I want to be an Air Force Fighter Pilot but I have "asthma". Any advice?Hey guys! My dream is to be a fighter pilot in the Air Force. I know it's REALLY competitive to become one, but I really want to fly the F-22 or F-35. I am a Junior in high school, a very good student, and engage in lots of leadership and community service. However, I have "asthma." My doctor diagnosed me last summer, but she said that it wasn't exactly asthma. The thing is, since the pool I swim at everyday has horrible ventilation, there is an invisible gas that floats over the pool, which is a mixture of chlorine fumes, sweat, and other stuff. I never had asthma problems at all until after I had been practicing at the pool everyday for three years. Thats when I got symptoms. Even then, it's really just a shortness of breath; I've never fainted and can still swim if I don't want to use my inhaler. If I use my inhaler, it's usually because I'm in a badly ventilated pool area for a long time doing a strenuous workout. Every single person on my team who has been there for at least three years has an inhalor. I can run for miles without any asthma; it's only at the pool and even then it's very rare. Do you think I could get a waiver for this?
I also have seasonal pollen allergies, but only need to take Zyrtec (no prescriptions needed). Do I have a chance at becoming a pilot?

If you have asthma and tell anyone in the military you have asthma at your age, the closest you are going to get to a military cockpit is a video game.

yes you do, ..........pursue that dream. Go talk to a local recruiter and get their input. You will be fine. Good Luck!

Dude I don't think you have asthma, at least not the normal one.

I wouldn't say anything if I were you, and I'd stay away from the pool and when the symptoms disappear I'd get a doctor to clear you of having asthma.
