what are ways to prevent asthma attacks?I'm trying to prevent asthma so I can join the military. Now, before anyone says anything like "you can't with asthma," you most certainly can. 2 of my cousins did, and I know countless others who also did, and their asthma went past their 13th birthdays. I am NOT stopping myself from using an inhaler when it's necessary. "Playing around" with a medical disorder like this is stupid and dangerous. I have developed breathing techniques to use when I anticipate an attack. I also have been increasing aerobic exercise. My asthma is allergy induced (with allergies, I already have to be stressed, and then do exercise), so ways to control that may be helpful, too. Thank you.
Kimberly, thanks for a pile of BS. First of all, I would never be in such a situation as I have no desire whatsoever to take part in infantry work. I would wanna be a pilot, but with the high liability and training costs, it just doesn't make sense to higher asthmatic pilots. I want to do something involving aviation in the Air Force or Navy. Also, my cousins did not lie. They got waviers. Seriously, learn what you're talking about or GTFO.

well, staying away from allergens is probably the best thing to do. Taking daily medication is the best way to keep it in control. I used to suffer from asthma attacks that i needed to be hospitalized for 5+ times yearly because i wasn't in control of it. Also, take caution to your breathing when exercising.

keep your self and were u sleep clean and neat
stay away from dust
stay awy from smokers
exercise daily like skipping, jogging and and lung execise
get fresh air in the morning
use ur inhaler as prescribed by the doctor
because if u use ur inhaler 2 much u can get addicted to it because it contains steriods
so use it wisely

Listen young man, the reason the military does not want soldiers with asthma is because when you fall over mid battle and don't have an inhaler, or the attack is bad enough you need medical attention, your whole squad is forced you drag your sorry ass to safety jeopardizing themselves to save your life. Its not a matter of "oh, I can prevent my attacks" because there is no possibly way you can physically stop an attack. You can lessen the seriousness yes, but stop, no. When you lie and join you risk the lives of the men and women you serve with because if you have an attack you can expose them, or if you fall behind they will too. Remember, American soldiers never leave men behind. When someone has a medical emergency the entire squad is put at risk to work together to help you.
If you can even make it through boot camp with having asthma, and not keeping an inhaler, then you don't really have asthma to begin with. More or less allergies. Shame on your cousins for lying to the very country that relies on them to protect it. There is nothing against asthmatics, the government just does not want you getting hurt, nor the men with you.
